You Weren’t Hired. You Were Sent: Your Real Assignment in the Marketplace

Success was supposed to fix it.

That is the quiet deal millions of people make with their careers. Reach the next level, and the restlessness goes quiet. Close the next deal and the emptiness finally fills. It never quite does. There is a reason the most accomplished people you know are often the most quietly hungry. They have everything they were told to chase, and they still are not home.

Scripture named that ache long ago. It also named the way home.

“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” (Isaiah 45:22, ESV)

The living God is thundering salvation to the far corners of creation. This is no whisper into the void. If you think “the ends of the earth” only means remote villages, tribal jungles, and distant nations, you are missing the full picture. The ends of the earth also look like office towers in Johannesburg, shared workspaces in Berlin, subway platforms in Taipei, and coffee shops in Manhattan. They look like your Zoom call, your Slack thread, and your next sales meeting.

Wherever men and women wake up anxious, grind through meetings, celebrate promotions, drown in performance pressure, and then go home to an aching emptiness they cannot name, that is the end of the earth.

And make no mistake, God is after them.

You Have Been Empowered for This

Listen closely. Acts 1:8 cuts straight through comfort-zone Christianity. It says this:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, ESV)

You receive power so you can be a witness. There is no middle ground here, no safe halfway option. The power is for witness. It is for speaking, and for going.

And here is what most marketplace believers miss. That power is not reserved for pastors and missionaries. It is for you. The executive and the analyst. The teacher, the business owner, the barista working the early shift.

You have been called. You have been sent. You have been empowered.

Why? Because right now, across this planet, men and women have been marked by God, chosen and appointed and prepared by Him. But they are not walking into a church building or sitting in a conference. They are looking for someone who walks in the same world they do, even if they do not know it yet. Someone who carries the same weight, speaks the same language, operates in the same system, but walks with a different Spirit.

That someone is you.

You are their sermon. You are their introduction to the kingdom of God. They will find Him through a peer who sits in the same meetings and faces the same pressures.

This is how the kingdom advances.

It happens over coffee, in the margins of a meeting, on a delayed flight, in the text you send at the right moment. None of it dramatic. None of it staged. All of it kingdom-precise and eternally significant.

Ken Costa spent decades as one of the most influential investment bankers in London. As former Chairman of UBS Investment Bank for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, he sat in rooms where billions of dollars changed hands, and global decisions were made. His mission field was the boardroom.

Yet in those high-stakes spaces, behind closed doors and over late-night dinners, Ken spoke about Jesus in Spirit-led moments that cut through the wealth, the weariness, and the relentless ambition. He once sat with a rising executive on the edge of burnout. They talked about life, legacy, and the emptiness of success, and then Ken told him plainly that what he was longing for would not be found in the next promotion. It would be found in a Person.

Not long after, that man gave his life to Christ.

You Are God’s Strategy

This is how God moves in the marketplace. Through people like you.

Marketplace ministry is not a side gig for the spiritually restless.

It is war. And you have been deployed.

You are sent into boardrooms where darkness wears a Rolex. Into hallways where burnout wears the mask of success. Into meetings where spiritual emptiness hides behind flawless presentations and designer suits.

This is a divine assignment. It is how the King gets His message into spaces where pulpits cannot reach, where the Gospel has been silenced, scrubbed, or shrugged off.

You did not just end up in your role. You were sent there.

Surgically Necessary

This is why urgency matters. We do not have forever. Men and women are spiritually sick and walking off cliffs every single day. They drown in success while starving for meaning. They die with the appearance of having it all.

There are souls who will never hear the Gospel unless you speak, and never see real hope unless you shine.

You do not need extra permission. You have already been sent.

This mission goes far deeper than a more positive workplace or Jesus added to your LinkedIn bio. It means living as an ambassador of the King in hostile territory. It means seeing your desk as an altar, your meetings as mission, and your lunch break as a divine appointment.

It means living in such a way that when your coworkers look at you, they catch more than competence. They catch a glimpse of Christ. They see love and joy, peace and patience, and the hope of the Gospel.

We are not here to play defense or be polite Christians in secular spaces. We are here because God is not done saving people, and He has chosen you as His instrument in this hour.

Marketplace believers carry real weight. We strike the gates of hell with authority and speak healing with tender care, blunt force and surgical precision in the same hands.

And the Word we carry? It is invincible.

So rise and step into the room you are already standing in. Speak boldly and love deeply. Live sent. This is not a moment. It is a mission, and you were made for it.

This is Higher Ground. Let’s go there together.
