Pestilence Confronted: No Fear

Pestilence Confronted: No Fear of Covid

Everyday we hear numerous reports in newspapers and on television news programs that Covid cases are rising in this state or this country. Since we have never had this level of news coverage and reporting on a single disease, I can see why it has caused many people to be fearful.

Yet is fear the right response for a Christ-follower to any news?

Jesus specifically taught his disciples: “Do not be anxious about your life” (Read Matthew 5:25-34)! How can I say that I have faith if I am fearful?  Good question to ask I think. It seems faith and fear are not compatible in the will of God and His kingdom. Why? What is faith?

Dr. Tony Evans, the author and pastor defines faith this way: “Faith is acting as if God is telling the truth.” We must have faith that God is greater than any problem or disease we face because He says so in His word in many ways: “But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God” (Luke 18:27) and “The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19).

One of our beloved CBMC leaders from Europe told me recently, “Covid is not ruling, God is ruling.” This really hit me as a wonderful way to put this pandemic into perspective.

As God’s ambassadors in the marketplace, may we all reflect the strength and power of the Lord’s truth about circumstances on earth and our eternal life promised in heaven with Him.
