Pestilence Confronted: Be Prepared To Declare
The Covid virus has separated families and friends and many church families have also had to stop meeting in person. I personally have two men (good friends but not Christ-followers) that I have been wanting to ask to meet and go through the Gospel of John with me. Normally I ask a man to meet and I usually say something like, “let’s meet just once and then I will ask you only two questions: Did you enjoy it? And do you want to meet again? I learned this technique from my dear English friend, Richard Borgonon, who developed the One to One Word materials (theword121.com) with a pastor friend. The technique and the materials are both effective.
In truth, I think the Covid virus has been become a convenient excuse for me to let down a little bit and wait until the conflict has passed before I carry on. But the Gospel cannot wait. Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church (1 Thessalonians 2:1-4, ESV):
For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.
Even “in the midst of much conflict” Paul was bold to declare the gospel.
Lord help me find the time, the place and way to continue to meet with men on my ten most important list. This very time of Covid conflict might be the very time they will be open to your Gospel message.
Blessings,
Jim
